About

JEE Main is the gateway exam for admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and is also the mandatory qualifier for JEE Advanced (IITs). Held over two sessions, your best score across sessions is considered.

When to apply

Session 1: November–December; Session 2: February–March (illustrative — confirm on the official site each cycle).

Expected exam dates

Session 1: January; Session 2: April (illustrative).

Marking scheme

+4 for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer (MCQs), 0 for unattempted. Numerical-answer-type questions have no negative marking.

All NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and 1000+ state/private engineering colleges accept JEE Main scores. It is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced (IITs).

Recent cutoffs

Illustrative — general category qualifying percentile has recently been in the low-to-mid 90s; NIT branch-wise closing ranks vary widely by campus and category. Verify against the latest JoSAA/official data before publishing.

Tips & tricks

Attempt both sessions and let your best score count. Build speed on Class 11 topics early since Class 12 syllabus tends to dominate later revision time. Attempt numerical-answer questions carefully — no negative marking there.
