About

JEE Advanced is the sole entrance exam for admission to the 23 IITs. Only the top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers (across categories) are eligible to attempt it. It consists of two compulsory papers on the same day.

When to apply

Registration typically opens shortly after JEE Main Session 2 results.

Expected exam dates

Marking scheme

Varies by question type and by year — includes full marks, partial marking, and negative marking on different sections. Always check the current year's information bulletin.

Syllabus

Builds on the JEE Main syllabus with a sharper focus on application and multi-concept problem solving across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

All 23 IITs. Also used by a small number of other institutes (e.g. IISc Bangalore's some programs) for admission alongside their own criteria.

Recent cutoffs

Illustrative — opening/closing ranks vary enormously by IIT and branch (e.g. CSE at top IITs closes in double/low-triple digits). Verify against the latest JoSAA data before publishing.

Tips & tricks

Practice previous years' papers under strict time limits — the question style (multi-correct, matrix-match, numerical) rewards familiarity with format as much as content mastery.
