Established in 1987 as Regional Engineering College Jalandhar and converted to an NIT (renamed after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar) in 2002, it is one of Punjab's premier technical institutes and an Institute of National Importance. Its campus sits along the GT Road corridor on the Jalandhar-Amritsar bypass.
