MNNIT Allahabad was established in 1961 as Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It was granted National Institute of Technology status and Institute of National Importance recognition in 2002. The 222-acre campus is located in Prayagraj (Allahabad).
